SOUND

When choosing our music we wanted something that would be representative of the music that teenagers and the characters in our film listen too, choosing this bass track from a royalty free youtube page.

after showing an audience our trailer and receiving their feedback, we found that they felt like the music needed to be changed due to the lack of climax in the music to match our action. We found from the research that we needed either two pieces of music to merge into one to show different moods and atmospheres in the trailer, or we needed a piece of music that changed itself.

We chose this royal free piece as it starts slow which we can match with our longer shots and then gradually speeds up which worked well with our fast paced cuts and short shots in the crash. This music helps us demonstrate the equilibrium and disruption stages in our narrative. We received further audience feedback after making this change and found that people thought this track was much more effective in the way it portrayed the different moods between scenes.

Today we experimented with a shot we are planning to use at the party scene with Will. Below is a preliminary clip to test out it's effectiveness. 

HOT FUZZ

After watching 'Hot Fuzz' I noticed a lot of editing techniques and devices that we can look at for our own trailer.

This is an example of parallel action that has been used but is also in a way graphic match as the frame cuts to a similar thing happening in each shot.

In action scenes there is a lot of camera work that swings from different parts of the action which eliminated using cuts during theses scenes other than when cutting to parallel action.

This use camera work makes showing the action less violent and a lot easier to show.

As we want to include slight violence in our film but do not want to get overly graphic, we can use this technique in our trailer.

Different red foods are used throughout the film instead of blood, not only does this add to the comedic value of the film, but it also minimises the violence, although we are not filming a comedy and would not necessarily use this particular, it is a good way of avoiding over the top and cliche violence, which we also want to make sure of.

Throughout the film there was a lot of sound use to emphasise actions, as sound is going to be very important in our trailer, this is something that we can look into and use to develop our piece. sound is used in so many different ways throughout the film; to show things about characters, give away things in the plot and foreshadow action. one example of this is in this scene where the chief inspectors lip twitches and a sound is used at the same time as this to emphasise the action and back up the dialogue.

the film refers to things that have already happened, in a way the first events foreshadows what comes laters such as 'The Andy's' talking about Arron A Arronson in the phone book and him later being introduced as a character as well as the way skinner kills messenger by pushing part of the church on his head is reflected by the way skinner lands on and gets impaled by the model church. We are planning on using this same device in our trailer by showing the brother drinking from a bottle and then later mirroring this action with his sister.

SHOT INSPIRATION

For shots of the party we really liked the way that this music video was shown and really showed the way she was being affected by drink. This shot is really effective in the way it tracks the main character and I feel that we would be able to replicate something in homage to this sort of shot

We have used copyright free music over this video [(C) 2014 Universal Music AB] to further show the sort of shot we want to create, this music and the video really show the juxtaposition and binary opposition we hope to create.

PARTY SCENE INSPIRATION

This shot from Movern Callar has inspired us to use Juxtaposition during the party scene. The shot used in this scene shows the audience the emotion and intoxication of the protagonist. 

JUXTAPOSITION AND INSPIRATION

For part of our final film trailer we wanted to have a shot of Jack's (Will's) face walking through the party to show how intoxicated he is. We looked for some exemplar clips that demonstrated this look. After watching an example from Movern Callar we decided to fix a clip of classical music to a similar shot from Mean Streets.
